Top 4 Reasons Why You Need Email Marketing

Why Email Marketing is a winner

Hi, I'm Jessica founder and co-admin of Business Gems. I am also the founder and CEO of Botswana Digital Gems, an innovative digital marketing company that creates digital conversations through websites, email campaigns and social media marketing. I am also the co-founder of FamilyGems.co.bw which is a directory and online magazine that connects parents to family-friendly Botswana. It is the largest website of its kind. As a Motswana, I am fully focused on helping support local businesses in Botswana and helping them to stand out in their respective fields.

Why Email Marketing

In a world that is constant trying to get our attention here are the top 4 reasons why your #1 business priority needs to be growing an email list.

01. You don’t own your social media audiences—but you own your email list.

Remember when Facebook went down and everyone went into a tailspin? Now imagine if that just happened permanently. You have spent years growing your Facebook page likes, engagement and brand. Then poof it’s all gone. Whereas your email list is something you own.

02. Social media platforms decide and dictate what their user experience is, and what they see and won’t see. (Chances are, they aren’t seeing YOU or your posts).

Look I run social media for businesses. I know it still has value, but I am at constant war with Mark Zuckerberg and his Meta (Facebook) algorithms. The content you’re making on social media doesn’t have the reach it once did. Although there are 1.1 million people on Facebook in Botswana there are also more businesses than ever before competing for customers’ attention. Plus if Meta deems your content not interesting enough then no one will see your stuff. Imagine spending hours on an Instagram post to discover it only had a reach of 10 people.

03. Email can help you speak directly to people who care about your offer.

The key word there: directly. On socials, you’ve got a pretty diverse pie chart of what people want from you; they’re not ALL there to say YES to your business. Whereas if you have email addresses for people interested in your niche, well that’s gold.

4. Email can help you serve your audience even better with thoughtful communication.

Email isn’t dried up – in fact, in a recent study it was seen to have the best ROI of all digital marketing. Plus it’s a super-personal way to connect because it’s not blasted out to whoever will look at it. It’s JUST for people in your special club. Kind of like Business Gems emails. We craft those with you women in business in mind. We want you to find our emails entertaining and of value to you.

BONUS reason: Segmentation of your list

This is something I love. On most email providers you can segment and tag your email lists. For example, if you sell cosmetics, you can segment your audience by skin type and promote the right products to each of them. This makes your emails even more personal and have the right people get the right product just for them.

What email provider should you use?

Now that I’ve convinced you that you NEED an email list…where should you start. A quick google of email providers for business will show you that there are now loads of email providers out there. I’ve complied a quick list for you of the top players in the market. (We use Mailchimp & ConvertKit for all of our needs in both Business Gems & other client programs.)
